“There is no such thing as work-life balance. Everything worth fighting for unbalances your life.” ― Alain de Botton
“There is a real possibility that I AM creating a harmonious life.”
Have you been feeling like a balance of money, health, romance, fun, and rest has been alluding you? Feel like everyone else has it figured out except you?
Does your life feel more like a child constantly banging on a pile of pots and pans than a gorgeous orchestra playing a beautiful symphony of rhapsodic melodies?
If so, then take a rest stop from searching for balance.
In music, it is during the rest periods — the quiet space between the notes — that we can actually appreciate the notes that were just played and hear them as a harmony.
In life, our rest stops provide the same function.
I learned this Energy Surge the hard way — by doing my best to ‘beat the clock day in and day out’ to see how much I could fit into a day.
My day consisted of banging out note after note:
*Getting on the computer as soon as I woke up
*Going from one meeting to the next without even a bathroom break
*Staying on the computer to all hours of the night attempting to catch up on every one of the notes and emails I had received during the day (you get the idea *wink*)
I would go for days on end without catching my breath. I burned out my Adrenal system and I wound up in bed for two years….a forced rest stop.
What I learned while I was recuperating is that there will always be more emails, more events, more requests, more opportunities…and to enjoy them fully…I must be sure my energy is fully re-charged in-between each one.
And, that means taking self-intentional time-outs and rest stops!
Some of these rest stops will be 5 minutes of quiet in-between a meeting and my next activity. Some of these will be afternoons spent shopping, reading, or relaxing with my husband and pets. And, some of these will be days, weeks, and months on vacation doing something completely different from what I usually do.
Now when I am taking these rest stops, I am conscious that I am creating my life as a beautiful musical composition filled with delightful rhythms and melodies … in-between the deliciously quiet moments!
How will you create a more harmonious life for yourself?
