“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
~ Oprah Winfrey
Did you know that most people focus more attention on what they want…rather than what they have?
This is unfortunate — because the fastest way to attract what we desire is to express appreciation for what we have already attracted.
As Sheryl Crow sings, “It’s not having what you want, it’s wanting what you have.”
It’s just that simple —Appreciation attracts more opportunities for Appreciation.
I know for myself that the day I stopped focusing on what I did not yet have and began appreciating what I did have, that was the day I began climbing out of my depression.
At the time, I had wanted to be married and was not even dating anyone I liked. I lived each day in a deep depression constantly aware of couples wherever I went and whatever I did. My thoughts would always focus what I could not do because I was not half of a couple.
Somehow, through the fog of feeling sorry for myself, I received an inspiration that cleared the fog away.
Here’s the inspiration that came to me….if I wanted my life to be better, then it was time to stop focusing on what I wanted and to appreciate what I already had and could do!
I decided immediately to appreciate all the activities I was able to do because I was still single. I made a list that day of everything I was able to do as a single person … and then I began doing and fully appreciating those activities.
I kept a Gratitude Journal next to my bed and recorded my thanks and appreciations in the Journal each night and I began noticing all the opportunities that were coming my way to date a variety of different people (something I would not be doing once I was married – LOL!).
I also began to attract opportunities to travel and be of service, which lead me to accept a volunteer position overseas. And, two weeks after arriving, I met my husband, Bill. We were engaged within 3 weeks and married 4 months later. This year, we are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary.
And, I express appreciation every day for all the wonderful aspects of our life together.
My daily ritual for expressing Appreciation is to do so at bedtime…I review my day and express thanks, gratitude, and acknowledgment for all that I attracted during the day.
Thanks for taking a moment now to share in the comment box below how you will be putting yourself first this year to be more attractive.
