He who commands the sea has command of everything.
— Themistocles
Throughout my life, I have experienced calm times and turbulent ones…just as each of us have.
Sometimes I have been directly responsible for creating challenges in my life…for example, when I have forgotten to keep an agreement or I have chosen to experiment with a new experience and it did not go as planned.
Other times, it has seemed as if the challenges found me while I was quietly minding my own business.
Whether I directly caused the turbulence or not, I am always in control of how I ride out the storm until a calm sea returns. Which is why I love the 11 simple steps I use to command my internal approach to external forces.
And, I also love how Kathy Grannes shared with me how she uses these 11 simple steps in the same way.
“I had been facing some fears while contemplating a decision to be made. Some I knew, some I was not so sure of. Rather than camp out in my fears, I chose to practice Stacey Hall’s 11 simple steps.
First, I chose to use Personal Accountability Partners — to call on my support system. I had a 3-way call with two Accountability Partners. They were able to reflect to me what they heard me say and put my words into perspective. They reminded me of the progress they have seen in me that I wasn’t remembering for myself. Statements and affirmations I enjoy like “3 feet from Gold”, and “you’re in the home stretch” kept popping in my mind. I realized I had not been loving myself very much and I was beating myself up in that moment.
Next, I chose to use The Solution Process — to help make the decision I was considering. Rather than pushing ahead, I chose to slow down. I focused on practicing my daily Rituals and added even more mindfulness to them. I went to bed using The Appreciation Perspective Experience — saying my gratitude and appreciation thoughts of what I have been doing positive in my life, no matter how small. I appreciated myself for making healthy meals or fresh vegetable and fruit smoothies. I also woke up looking forward to accomplishing certain activities planned for the day.
I chose to do these activities with grace. I chose to make it a great week. As the days went on, it was with more grace and ease as I continued to appreciate myself for the many things I was doing to improve upon my state of being!
Thanks for taking time to read my experience. What choices are you making in spite of a storm you are going through? What rituals do you have in place for your GREAT week?”
